Make a Difference Today and in the Future
Every gift, large or small, helps us serve our community, maintain our historic buildings and share the love of God with everyone who walks through our doors.
Ways to Give
At St Mary’s and St Peter’s, we give because God has first given so generously to us.
As a church, we depend on the generosity of our community. Every act of generosity helps our church family to worship, support our community, and continue our mission in Staines.
Whether you can give a little or a lot, every gift makes a difference. We invite you to prayerfully consider regular giving to the church, helping sustain and strengthen the work God is doing here. If you are already contributing, perhaps you might consider giving a little more. God knows our financial situation and desires generous hearts, rather than specific sums.
Explore the ways you can donate in more detail below.
Every gift helps preserve two remarkable churches with centuries of history between them. Discover the history of St Mary's and St Peter's to learn more about what your support makes possible.
Your generosity enables us to remain a vibrant, welcoming Christian community. Thank you.
Why Donate?
Regular Giving
A regular gift through PGS, our regular giving direct debit platform, is the most effective way to give to the life and work of St Mary's and St Peter’s. It helps us to budget and use resources wisely as we know how much we have coming in each month. It also involves the least administration for our parish.
Your donation can be Gift Aided. We will use the PGS donations where they are most needed. There are no processing fees for regular donations, and you remain in control of your gift and can alter the amount whenever you need.
We are immensely grateful for any donations, whatever the size, and however they arrive. Please do consider regular donations. If you already donate, perhaps you might consider increasing your gift.

PGS offers an optional inflation-linked giving feature. When you sign up, you can choose to allow your donation to increase automatically each year in line with the Retail Prices Index (RPI). This is entirely your choice and means your gift retains its real value over time without you needing to do anything. You can change or cancel this at any time.
-
Yes. When setting up your donation you can choose to give anonymously. This means your name will not be visible to the parish, giving you complete discretion over your giving.
-
Yes. If you are a UK taxpayer, the Parish Giving Scheme will automatically claim Gift Aid on your donations, adding 25p to every £1 you give at no extra cost to you.
This means a £10 gift becomes £12.50, and £100 becomes £125. -
You are always in control of your giving. You can increase, decrease, pause or cancel your donation at any time by logging into your PGS account online or calling the PGS team directly.
One-Off Donations
At St Mary's and St Peter's, we welcome one-off donations in several convenient ways.
You can give cash during our services.
You can tap your debit or credit card, or use a digital wallet such as Apple Pay or Google Pay, at one of our card terminals for a quick and secure donation. You will find the terminals at the back of the church.
For those who prefer to give online, you can make a one-time gift at any time through Give a Little, our secure online giving platform. Your gift goes directly to supporting our church and Gift Aid can be claimed as part of the process.
One-off donations are possible via the PGS platform, though this method requires more input from the donor and we incur a fee*.
Each option is safe, simple, and greatly appreciated as it supports the ongoing ministry and mission of our church.
*The fee is for one-off PGS payments only and not for regular PGS payments.-
Donating online is quick and simple. Visit our Give a Little page and follow these steps:
Select whether you would like to make a one-off or monthly donation
Select a suggested amount or enter your own amount
Choose whether to add Gift Aid
Enter your payment details and confirm your gift
The whole process takes just a few minutes.
-
Our card terminals are available during services and events. You will find them at the back of the church, where a member of our team will be happy to help. You can tap your debit or credit card, or use Apple Pay or Google Pay, for a quick and secure contactless donation.
-
Yes. If you would prefer your donation to remain anonymous, simply choose not to provide your personal details when prompted. Your gift will still reach us in full.
-
Our online platform and card terminals accept any donation over £1. Every gift is gratefully received.
Pay as you Earn
Pay As You Earn (PAYE) is a simple and tax-efficient way to support the ongoing ministry of St Mary’s and St Peter’s Church, Staines. It is also known as Payroll Giving and Give As You Earn (GAYE).
What is PAYE?
PAYE allows you to donate to the church directly from your salary before tax is deducted.
As your donation is taken from your gross pay, you receive immediate tax relief and the church receives the full amount of your gift.
This scheme is only available to employees whose employer is registered with a Payroll Giving agency. If your employer offers it, you can sign up through your HR or payroll department.
For more information, visit the Church of England - Payroll Giving page.
-
Standard rate taxpayers (20%): You give £8, we receive £10
Higher rate taxpayers (40%): You give £6, we receive £10
Additional rate taxpayers (45%): You give £5.50, we receive £10
-
We receive more money at less cost to you.
Payments are made automatically through your employer's payroll.
There is no need to fill out a Gift Aid form.
Regular giving helps us to better plan and account for the costs of running our church.
-
With Gift Aid, you donate from your take-home pay and the church claims 25p for every £1 you give from HMRC. This is capped at the basic rate of tax (20%) regardless of your tax band.
With PAYE giving, your donation comes directly from your gross pay before tax is calculated, with tax relief applied automatically at your highest rate. This makes PAYE giving particularly beneficial for higher rate taxpayers.
In both cases the church receives the full value of your gift.
-
Both are excellent ways to give regularly, but PAYE giving has some distinct advantages depending on your tax rate.
With PGS, donations are made from your net pay and Gift Aid is claimed back at the basic rate of 20%, meaning the church receives an extra 25p for every £1 you give.
With PAYE giving, your donation comes directly from your gross pay before tax is calculated. This means:
Basic rate taxpayers (20%) receive the same overall benefit as Gift Aid
Higher rate taxpayers (40%) and additional rate taxpayers (45%) receive significantly more tax relief, making their donation go further at less personal cost
If you are a higher rate taxpayer, PAYE giving is the most tax-efficient way to support the church. If you are a basic rate taxpayer, both options are equally beneficial. The best choice is simply whichever is more convenient for you.
-
Check with your HR or Payroll Department to see if your employer offers PAYE .
Ask for a PAYE form.
Select St Mary & St Peter, Staines as your chosen charity and choose the amount you wish to give.
If your employer doesn’t offer Payroll Giving, ask if they can introduce it.
Questions? Please contact us — we’re happy to help.
-
You can ask your employer to introduce it by registering with a Payroll Giving agency, which is free for employers to set up. Alternatively, donating through our Parish Giving Scheme is an excellent and tax-efficient alternative.
-
No, because your donation is taken from your gross pay before tax is calculated, the tax relief is automatic. There is no need to fill out a Gift Aid form.
Support us When You Shop
Donate to St Mary's and St Peter's every time you shop at no extra cost to you. Give as You Live generates a cashback-style donation when you shop at over 6,000 retailers.
If you already shop online, it really is a simple (and free) way to give a little extra to our church every time you shop.
-
Give as You Live is an online shopping platform that turns everyday purchases into charitable donations.
Simply access your favourite retailers through the Give as You Live website, app or browser extension, shop as normal, and a percentage of what you spend is donated to us.
There is no extra cost to you and no change to how you shop.
It really is that simple!
-
Sign up and select St Mary's and St Peter's, Staines* as your chosen charity
Shop online by visiting retailers through the Give as You Live website, app or browser extension
The retailer pays a commission for referring you to their site, just as they would through standard online marketing
The majority of that commission is passed to the church as a donation
You pay exactly the same price as normal. The retailer funds the donation.
*Use the link above to go directly to our page. We are listed under our full registered name, PCC of Saint Mary and Saint Peter, Staines.
-
Signing up is free and takes just a few minutes:
Visit Give as You Live and create a free account
Select St Mary's and St Peter's as your chosen charity
Download the app or add the browser extension so you never miss a donation
Start shopping as normal through Give as You Live and your purchases will automatically generate donations for us
-
No. You pay exactly the same price as you would shopping directly. The donation comes entirely from the retailer's marketing budget, not your pocket.
It really is free giving.
-
Give as You Live works with over 6,000 retailers, including many well-known high street and online brands such as Amazon, John Lewis, M&S, eBay and Booking.com.
You can check whether your favourite shops are included on the Give as You Live website.
-
We receive a percentage of your purchase as a donation.
Small amounts add up over time, providing a valuable source of additional income to support our ministry, mission and community work.
-
Retailers already pay commission to websites that refer shoppers to them.
You may be familiar with sites like TopCashback, which works on exactly the same principle as Give as You Live but passes the commission back to you as cashback, or Uswitch, which earns a commission when you switch energy provider.
Through Give as You Live, that same commission is redirected to us instead. It costs the retailer no more than normal, and costs you nothing at all.
-
No. Because the donation comes from the retailer's marketing budget rather than directly from you, it does not qualify for Gift Aid.
However every penny of the retailer's commission still reaches us in full, at no cost to you.
-
Absolutely. Give as You Live works alongside any other way you choose to support us, including regular giving through PGS or one-off donations through Give a Little.
