St Mary’s is a small and friendly congregation offering traditional eucharistic worship in the oldest church in Staines.
Our services are deeply rooted in prayer and the Word, and accompanied by traditional hymns. Incense is occasionally used for our Sunday, Easter and Christmas services.
Before the service there will be a member of our team at the main door to welcome newcomers. Please free to ask them any questions you might have.
The service lasts about an hour and a quarter. Afterwards, everyone is welcome to join us for tea and coffee in the hall.

The History of St Mary’s
St Mary’s Church, Staines, stands on a distinctive rise overlooking the River Thames, suggesting the site has been a place for gathering and worship since pre-Christian times. This long association with prayer and community gives St Mary’s an enduring presence in the heart of Staines.
The earliest record of St Mary’s dates from 1179, though evidence from the Domesday Book of 1086, shows that Staines already had an established vicarage held by Westminster Abbey.
In medieval times, the parish served a wide area, including Teddington, Ashford, Laleham, and possibly Yeoveney, reflecting its regional importance.
The oldest surviving part of the church is the brick west tower, built in 1631 and traditionally linked to Inigo Jones. After a partial collapse of the church in the 1820s, a private Act of Parliament allowed for rebuilding. Completed in 1829, the present church was designed by John Burges Watson in an Early English Gothic style, while retaining and raising the historic tower.
Over the years, St Mary’s has continued to evolve, with Victorian additions, wartime adaptations, and modern memorials, including a stained-glass window commemorating the 1972 Staines air disaster.
Today, St Mary’s remains a parish church, rooted in history and at the heart of the community it serves.
