Worshipping at St Peter’s

St Peter's is a welcoming congregation offering a relaxed and informal worshipping experience. Our lively services take place in our atmospheric Victorian church, with our band leading modern and traditional hymns, alongside holy communion.

Our Sunday service lasts about an hour and is followed by tea or coffee and a chance to chat. A member of our team will be happy to greet newcomers and answer any questions.

Children aged 4 and above are invited to join Junior Church in the Church Hall during the service, where they can explore their faith through stories, songs and games in a safe, child-friendly setting.

On the 3rd Sunday of every month, we have a joyful family service, where the whole parish is invited to worship together.

We gather from different backgrounds, communities, age groups and nationalities, together forming one lively, caring, active community of followers of Jesus.

The History of St Peter’s

St Peter’s Church, Staines-upon-Thames, is a Grade II listed building, cherished for its riverside location, Victorian architecture and active parish life.

St Peter’s was built in 1894 to serve a growing community following the arrival of the railway in the mid-19th century. As the town expanded south of the river, the need for a new parish church became clear.

The church was made possible through the generosity of Sir Edward Clarke KC, MP, who funded its construction on this riverside site. He continued to support St Peter’s for many years, donating bells, stained-glass windows, furnishings and the nearby vicarage, Peterhouse.

St Peter's was designed by the architect G. H. Fellowes Prynne. Built in a red-brick Gothic style, the church features elegant stone dressings and a distinctive copper-clad spire.

Well over a century after its consecration, it remains a vibrant place of worship and a well-loved landmark in Staines-upon-Thames.
